The Make :
Culet
The culet on a diamond is the tiny flat facet that is formed
by polishing off the tip at the bottom where all the facets of
the pavilion otherwise come to a point. This protects the fragile
tip of the diamond from chipping, which would require an expensive
recut.
Unfortunately, diamonds
without culets have become very commonplace. We recommend stones
with a small or very small culet to minimize the risk of chipping
the point. But then again, it should be enough to break a sale, it is just my opinion as an old guy in the business. :^) OK now you know, I am over 50. What would you expect for someone that has been in the business since around 1980?
